5. Project Editor, rendering Sub-Project

In order to use the 36 animation frames now available the screen size and color depth as well as the animation format must be indicated. This is done clicking on the New button just below the words Rendering Subproject. A file requestor is then invoked, in the bottom string gadget type "Small" and press enter to create a Sub-project. You now are given access to the sub-project control panel. Find the box in the upper right that reads "Scanline", make sure it's clicked on. Next, press the button named Presets just below. For this session select "PC Lo-Res". When You finish this, note that the image size will be 320 x 200. Farther down, click on the buttons TIFF-256, then FLC. You will now be ready to render the frames and compile them into a FLC anim.

You may make any number of sub-projects, using different screen sizes, color depths, trace mode, and so forth.

The various buttons below the frame list are now active. Press Range and hit enter when the small requestor reading "First, Last, Step" with the numbers "1, 36, 1" appears. Next click the Generate button. You will be asked which palette method You wish to use. Among them are Generate All, Generate First, Use Previous and Specify File. Because palette generation for the PC version of Imagine can take a fair amount of time, use Generate First. This scene uses few colors, and a single palette is likely to do well enough for this test. In more complex scenes, Generate All would be needed.

Imagine will proceed to render each frame. Small pictures with few items will render quickly, when all the stills are done the frames remain highlighted. Now just click on the Make button near the bottom right of the screen, You will then be asked if You wish to delete the still files as the animation is created. Just click YES. After a few more moments, the animation will have been compiled. Use the Load button near the bottom left. After a moment, the Play Once and Play Loop buttons are un-ghosted. Click Play Loop.

Your First anim begins zipping by. Press the F keys to slow or speed it up. When You've seen enough, hit Esc.

You now have made a basic Imagine animation.
